Analytical service for printing inks, raw materials and printed products

Zeller+Gmelin's analytical service supports the printing inks and coatings division with comprehensive analyses for the development of low-migration inks, raw material controls and internal testing of test samples. As a printer or manufacturer of food packaging, you can have your printed products checked to gain insight about the migration potential of your printing processes before sending them to an external analytical institute.

Comprehensive analyses for maximum product safety

Our analytical service monitors the migration safety of our inks and raw materials by means of gas chromatography (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography (LC-MS) with mass spectrometer. With the examination method of chromatography, a mixture of substances is separated from each other. The substances contained in the material can thus be detected individually. An analytical separation column works on the same principle. The materials to be separated are present in the separation column for different lengths of time.

With the method of mass spectrometry (MS or MS/MS) the individual substances can be determined unambiguously on the basis of their mass. If two substances have the same mass, their fragmentation patterns are investigated (how a substance decomposes). Substances can thus be clearly identified.

In addition to the internal testing by our analytics service, we have our low-migration ink series examined and evaluated by independent analytical institutes. Through this double test, we offer you, as a printer, packaging customer and consumer, the greatest possible product safety. Numerous analyses have shown that, when used properly with our low-migration color series, it is not only possible to reliably comply with the legal limit value for simulated migration tests, but also to fall below it.

Analytical services for printers and packaging manufacturers

We also offer you the possibilities of our analytical service as a printer or manufacturer of food packaging or labels for foodstuffs. Have your printed products checked and analysed and gain valuable information about the migration potential of your printing process before you send the packaging to a neutral, external analysis institute.

This way, you can ensure in advance whether or not a package complies with the legal limit value. This prevents unpleasant surprises and saves you time and money.
